Posting the details of the NCPF International Salon has prompted me to pop this little reminder onto the front page!
As I mentioned some time ago at a Club meeting, negotiations are under way to finalise the arrangements for our own "International Slideshow Swap" with the Park West Camera Club of New York (PWCCNY). The date has been fixed for 16th, November 2009, and you'll see it in your Calendar as "A Taste of America".
Helen Pine, of PWCCNY is currently drumming up a collection of around 150 images which, at around 5-10 seconds projection per image, should give us a show lasting 15-20 minutes. Remember - this is simply a show, NOT a Judging! I would dearly love to match that target. And so - the call goes out, once again.
Submissions must (obviously) be digital files, for projection in jpeg format. We'd like them to be no larger than 1024x768 resolution (for standardisation, more than anything else). And it would be cool if they gave an overall "Taste of UK", rather than just "150 Portraits Wot I Made"! Other than that, it's pretty much up to you!
Time to dust off your file-sorting systems and find me the pick of the bunch. There's plenty of time. But get cracking!!!

Monday, 22nd June 2009 saw a welcome visit to our Club from Leo Palmer, FRPS, APAGB, EFIAP, with an enlightening (and very entertaining) show entitled "Altered Images". Showcasing some of his portfolio of work, Leo introduced us to his approach to the digital manipulation of images. With "improved" skies being "dropped in" left, right and centre and "dodging and burning" here, there and everywhere, it was a whistle-stop tour indeed! There was even the occasional reference to "traditional" printing techniques thrown in, as a means of comparing/contrasting the old "wet" practices with today's digital darkroom tools (Ahh... bromoil... that takes me back!).
The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present, and we look forward to Leo's next visit to our Club. Sterling stuff!

Monday 15th June, saw Vince Rooker ARPS, DPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP (and general all-round sharp-shooter) dragged away from his garden-based target practice to deliver a couple of broadsides and a few well-placed potshots to our Members, in his judging of the Swan Trophy portrait competition.
With in excess of 40 prints to deliberate over, he had his hands full! But, I'm sure everyone will agree (or, at least, the Winners will), that he coped admirably.
In an entertaining evening, Vince whittled down the wide selection of subjects... from muscle-bound pugilists to delicate Gothic ladies... and from rifle-toting "laydees of ze rezeestance" to soft-focus babes in arms... they all fell by the wayside. Leaving us with this motley crew...

It has come to my attention that the website has not been automatically sending the Registration Confirmation e-mails to newly registered members. This was due to an oversight on my part, when updating the site recently. The error has now been corrected.
It is, however, not possible to re-issue these e-mails. Would any Member who has registered recently (and has not received the Confirmation e-mail) please contact me (Webmaster) through the Contact Us page, and I will enable your new account.
Apologies for the delay.

Monday, 1st June 2009 saw a visit to our Club from Keith Hildreth, DPAGB, with his slideshow lecture titled "British Wildlife".
Keith entertained and amused us all with a wide and varied selection of images from his travels around the U.K. If it has fur or feathers, it was included! The nature photographers among us were certainly kept busy, displaying an enviable knowledge of pretty much every critter which popped up on screen!
And, I'm glad to say, the technical difficulties which stopped us in our tracks at the start of the show were resolved pretty quickly by our resident engineer's nimble fingers. Thanks, Charlie!
And a big thank you to Keith, from all of us. We look forward to seeing you back here in the future.
