What can I say? You done us proud! The results of the NCPF Annual Competitions were received recently, and our Club can hold it's head up very high indeed. Carole Burns (Chairperson, 2008-2009) and Trevor Roxby (Competition Secretary, 2008-2009), would like to extend a personal thank you to all Members who took part in what has turned out to be our best effort (both for number of prints submitted and for results achieved) in a long time. They both feel that this result is "the icing on the cake" at the end of their year in charge of running the Club. A very apt sentiment, given Carole's renowned ability for turning out exceedingly good cakes. And, of course, given Trevor's ability to polish off any cake within reach! A special thank you goes out to both Phil and Sharon Davis, for their tireless efforts in organising the submission - from the collection of the prints, to the delivery to the NCPF. So... what's got us all so excited? NCPF Annual Colour Competition 2009 (Bewick Trophy - Club Entry - 6 prints) Totalling up a resounding 62 points, we came 11th overall in this section. That's 11th out of 40 Clubs! And we beat off some quite prestigious Clubs in doing so. The winning Club (Sunderland PA), scored 70 points. NCPF Annual Monochrome Competition 2009 (Corder Trophy - Club Entry - 6 prints) In this category, we amassed a relatively healthy 59 points. Sadly, that placed us 17th, out of the 25 participating Clubs. No disgrace there, though! Again, the winners were Sunderland P.A. with a score of 74. NCPF Annual Colour Competition 2009 (Joan Rooker Centenary Trophy - Individual Entry) In this overall Colour category, Charlie Goddard flew the glory flag for us, bagging a "Highly Commended" placing and a "Reserve" place in the "Alliance Portfolio", with his print "Spotted Woodpecker". As if that wasn't enough, he also earned places in the "Selectors' Choice Portfolio" with his "Whitby North Pier" and "Red squirrel in the snow". The Portfolios will be available later this year for viewing at the Club. NCPF Annual Beginners Competition 2009 (Individual Entry) A fabulous result in this section - 5 (yes, that's 5!) "Highly Commended" places came our way. That, folks, is 4th place in this competition. OK... so the glory is shared, somewhat, with other Clubs. We weren't, by any means, the only Club to pick up a HC placing. We were, however, the only Club to grab a solid handfull! A cracking result! And the lucky people? Andrew Daley with his print "Saltburn Pier", Mandy Grange with "Man in thought", Sharon Davis with "Country Mom and daughter" and Trevor Jones with a finishing flurry of "Bright eyes" and "Lady in red". Very well done to all of you! In closing, may I add a personal word of congratulations to all participants. As the current Competition Secretary, I find it heartening to see such an excellent outcome, especially when pitted against some of the most senior photography Clubs in the Northern Counties. |
