By popular demand, I have upgraded the Users' file storage limit on the Galleries to 4096k. That's 4meg in laymans terms... and means quadrupled storage! Have fun filling it up!
As a matter of interest, I've also noticed that some recently uploaded files are showing as rather small, when viewed. I'm wondering whether people are getting "image size" (i.e. dimensions) confused with "file size"?
Obviously, compressing your file sizes is a good idea, because you only have a limited amount of storage space. But, that doesn't mean your prized images need to be postage-stamp-sized when viewed! Saving the jpegs in a lower resolution (e.g. around 100) will allow the file size to be reduced, whilst allowing larger physical dimensions (around 400px wide/high) to fill up that screen!
Think about it!
